What Death Taught Me About Acceptance

I had the unique opportunity to work eight years, as a hospice social worker, caring for patients who were dying in their homes. I met people from all walks of life – the wealthy, and poorest of the poor, all ages, religions, and education levels.

The biggest obstacle they faced was denial from either the patient or a family member.

The longer people deny the inevitable the harder their death will be.

Death is not going to take them and they will fight till the bitter end, but it is futile.

The smart ones accept their fate, prepare for death’s coming, and peacefully leave with it.

Acceptance is the key and the hardest thing to do because you realize death is near.

It may seem easy but you have to overcome your fear of death and the great unknown.

The sooner you accept dying, the easier your death will be.

I had a young mother with three children who accomplished this acceptance, she died at home with her husband and children in bed with her, and it was beautiful to watch as each one said their goodbyes.
