I finished watching a news broadcast and one of the stories was about a child who disappeared. A media vulture was interviewing the parents who were visibly distraught and asked, How Do You Feel. This question is inane, inappropriate, dumb, and insensitive. Vultures who ask this question should be drawn and quartered.
When tragedy strikes, they circle the victim’s home searching for family members to ask their probing questions. The members are in shock and do not hear the question as their concern is for their loved one.
It is beyond my comprehension any person could be so thoughtless. The family is going through hell and do not need some idiot with a microphone asking unfeeling questions.
The vulture’s job is to bring news to the masses no matter how much they infringe on a family’s privacy. People sit in front of their computers and TV set watching every juicy detail expecting the vultures to discover more details. Our voyeurism gives sanctions to the vultures, allowing them to feed on people’s shock, sorrow, and lose.
Society waits for loved ones to reveal how they feel and hope to hear the following responses; I really don’t care for my child and hope he is never found. My husband was a jerk and I hope he gets what he deserves. My mother was old and lived long enough. There is no doubt my sister-in-law had something to do with my brothers disappearance, and when his body is found, the evidence will implicate her.
However, when people are asked How Do You Feel, these are their natural responses; I feel just horrible about my brother’s sudden death. I cannot talk, as I still cannot believe this has happened. What am I going to do? Someone must have seen him before he disappeared. Please would someone just come forward?
Vultures ask How Do You Feel as it invokes an emotional response and a way to gain information. Remember, we condone their behavior for our enjoyment, and your home could be the next one they are circling, waiting to ask How Do You Feel.
