Life Altering Decisions Can Lead To Regrets

I have agonized over life altering decisions, and watched family members and friends struggle too. The hardest decision I made was getting divorced as I have three daughters. Here are a few thoughts on life-altering decisions and regrets.

Life Altering Decisions

These decisions involve major changes in life often affecting loved ones, and include some of the following; changing jobs, moving to another state, getting married, divorcing, having a child, buying a house, or taking chemotherapy. People spend time making these decisions based on their knowledge and life experiences.

Knowledge comes from multiple sources including, talking with parents, friends, experts, and research from the internet. Sometimes, knowledge can lead to confusion making the decision harder, adds stress, and puts pressure on the person to make the right decision.

Life is in constant flux, creating new experiences daily. A decision we make on Monday, could be different on Friday as we have four more days of experience.
When the choice turns out favorable, we congratulate ourselves and feel like a winner. A choice, which does not go our way, leads to second-guessing, and regrets.

Regrets

Regrets are decisions we view as mistakes and beat ourselves up for not choosing the right option. They haunt people, as they cannot forgive themselves based on a decision, which went wrong and affected loved ones. It is difficult to get pass these, but people forget the decision was made on the knowledge and experience they possessed at the time, not what they know now.

Helpful Hints on Making Decisions

1. Go with your first choice, as it is usually from your heart.
2. Once, you make a decision stick with it. Do not be wishy-washy.
3. You can always change your mind based on new experiences.
4. Not making a decision is the decision.

Conclusion

I was young when I divorced, my life experience was slim, but I stuck to my decision and stayed close to my daughters.
