For, sixty-eight days the Chilean miners survived underground forming a group spirit, while the world brought the best minds and equipment on earth together to figure out a way to release them from their entombment. I watched TV with amazement as the Chilean miners exited the capsule that brought them back to life and when the last one-stepped into the night, they became the miracle thirty-three.
The miner’s families organized an encampment waiting for their rescue, and embraced this group spirit. Billions watched on TV as each family greeted their loved ones when they re-entered the world of light and remained till all were safe. Tomorrow they will seal the mine, close the camp, return home, and embark on their new lives, as the old one is gone forever. Today is the time to celebrate their re-birth with their families, and the world will rejoice with them.
The past four years the world has been dealing with bad story after bad story and desperately needed a success story with a happy ending. This miracle will lift up the world’s people by showing the power contained in a group’s spirit, and what it can accomplish.
I remember stories of an individual’s spirit making it back from impossible odds but never a group. This story is about their spirit, which kept them together no matter the odds, enabled them to return to the light, and a forged bond that affected the whole world.
