Hanging up the phone with my daughter, I was not surprised the new craze was the pillow pet. Children initiate rages when they want a toy their friends have. Mothers do not want to disappoint their children, as they will have to deal with their whining, nagging, and crying so they go to great lengths to obtain this toy including; staying in line overnight, recruiting friends, contacting relatives in other states, and searching store-to-store daily. However, disappoint is inevitable and they will have to tell their children.
Mothers will disappoint their children numerous times and sometimes feel guilty for not trying harder, and when they knock themselves out to accomplish something for their child, do not receive the recognition. Crazes and disappointment go hand in hand, and how they handle their children will go a long way when next year’s craze rolls around.
I disappointed my children during the Cabbage Patch doll craze and my children laugh when I tell them the lengths I went to trying to find one.
