After watching the national news, the older man could not get the name Jones out of his mind and then the connection clicked. On November 18, 1978, Pastor Jim Jones convinced his followers to drink poison Kool-Aid killing 912 people including him. Other members of the cult murdered those who refused the Kool-Aid before committing suicide. Since the tragedy, the term drink the Kool-Aid has morphed into doing something on blind faith.
Terry Jones has drunk the Kool-Aid and thinks by burning the Quran on September 11; he is fighting back against the evils of Islam. The fifty followers in his church have partaken from the Kool- Aid cup, are defending the pastor’s actions, and guarding him with firearms. Rev. Jones has taken it upon himself to become the spokesperson against Muslims, as the rest of the citizens do not know how to honor those killed on September 11. The whole world is watching and this arrogant little man is wallowing in the media spotlight.
There is nothing the authorities or federal government can do as this falls in the realm of freedom of speech and religion. The media could defuse the situation by not covering this nonsense, but instead converge on his church providing fuel for the fire.
This man is willing to commit an egregious act to gain attention and stated he has prayed and God told him it was right. God no matter what you believe is not vengeful and told us to forgive our enemies. What God does Pastor Jones pray to?
The older man was stunned when Jim Jones killed 912 people in 1978. Terry Jones is using the name of God to gain his power and the number of people he will kill is unknown.
The older man thought the Kool-Aid was gone, but it is still here after all these years.
