Computer Information Overload Effects Everyone

I have had it with the tons of bullshit on the internet. Do you feel the same way? How many times have you been on the net looking for a simple recipe, 100 sites come up in the search, and none has the recipe you want? In the old days, I went to the library for research and used reference books. It was time consuming, condensed, enough was available, and once you had the proper resources, the article was a breeze to write. Today, you spend hours on research as one site links to another and another and another and before you know it three hours fly by and you have no idea where you have been or what to write.

Contrary to popular believe, this massive information machine has created more confusion, less productivity, and lack of education for our youth. Physicians and patients relationships have suffered because of the internet as the information they receive can interfere with their treatment. There are thousands of medical sites, and hundreds for each disease and medical aliment people encounter. Patients visit their physician, go home, look up their aliment, and wonder if their doctor was right. When you do not believe or trust your doctor, get a new one or second opinion and do not use the internet as this opinion. People believe the more knowledge gathered the better they are able to make decisions. They forget the more information gathered cause’s brain over load and making a decision becomes impossible.

Productivity in the work place suffers as a simple task can quickly turn into a distraction in time consumption. Bosses think the internet enables their employees to complete tasks in minutes not hours, not realizing the personal distractions they face. Employees perceive checking their email or going on Facebook as their right, resulting in loss of productivity.

The education system in the country is becoming less functional due to the marvelous computer. The new schools built today are equipped with internet connections and the magical WI-FI enabling students to go online instantaneously. High school students do not know the basics of math and English, half cannot read, they can find anything on the net, but cannot assimilate the information. The sad part is this article is too advanced for many young people.

The older man has a higher education degree and it has taken him 8 months to find what he needs on the net. He limits his search to three sites and if this fails, tries new search word. The time has come to educate are youth to read, write, do simple math, and assimilate information, which will eliminate time and produce more productivity.
