Putting down the magazine, I contemplated the articles statistics regarding the number of independent people residing in the U.S. The article stated 99.9 % would never achieve the goal and only .1% reaches this status. The rest of the population can try to reach this lofty height but chances of succeeding are non-existence. I have some degree of autonomy but realize financially status will never be independent.
Money prevents 75% of the population from reaching total independence.
Social status hinders another 25%.
Disease and accidents force people to become dependent on others.
Free spirits pursue their dream as artists, musicians, and writers who feel by devoting their lives to their work will become independent, but when money comes into play have to put their dream aside.
Business owners belief they will gain autonomy, but business becomes their life resulting in letting family, friends, and other responsibilities fall by the wayside.
Teenager’s rebel against society thinking this will lead to independence become disillusioned, return to society, and depend on it.
Total independence is a pipe dream, everyone has some autonomy, but most depend on others.
I am glad for the independence I possess – going where I want, exercising, sleeping late, reading, assisting my loved ones, and being able to depend on others.
