After watching the world news, I headed out for my evening stroll, which by the way all old men do.
Thinking about the news, I could not get over how obsessed people are with polls. Today’s ratings were the lowest the President received due to the oil spill, unemployment, and housing.
When he took office, he inherited the worse economy in decades, two wars, a housing market imploding, and layoffs coming faster than a runaway train. His predecessor initiated the mess and people (especially the wealth), Wall Street, and the bank institutions he bailed out gave him a pass. American’s memories are short, have no patience, and it is easy to blame the President and his administration for all the ills befalling us.
The oil spill came and many compared it to Bush’s Katarina, which was handled in a disgraceful manner. There is no way to compare a natural disaster with a man-made one. The President tackled the black monster knowing it would follow him like a plague and no matter what he did, could not please everyone.
The oil spill is a hydra – the public has a thirst for oil that is unquenchable, the environmentalists want less offshore drilling, and the public feel the President should have taken charge earlier.
Heading home, I hoped the time has come to be patient with him, give him a break as he inherited a cluster f**k, and has no control over the oil spill.
