Words Can Lead to Hard Feelings

Standing in the check- out line at the grocery store the older man overheard two people arguing about the afternoon football game. It was obvious they   were rooting for different teams. The winner was bragging how superior his team was and the loser was obviously not listening as he was concentrating on his teams past accomplishments. As the two droned the older man’s  mind began to wander and realized it wasn’t about the game but who was right. He remembered the different discussions, arguments, and fights he was involved in and knew they were about ego. Everyone wants to win and be right, which elates the ego.  When we lose we immediately start thinking  about the next argument, how we are going to win, and bring pleasure to our ego. We never think how our words are affecting the other person. Some arguments start over a trivial matter and mushroom into an all-out war lasting for days, months, years, decades or even till death. These arguments are a total waste and death is the only thing which cannot be undone. When the quarrel involves immediate family the apology should be offered when the storm dies down. The longer the hurt feeling fester the harder it is to apologize. Its ego related and takes a real man or women to admit some of the things they said were wrong and are sorry. The person being apologized too should accept it with grace and they should continue on with their lives together with no animosity.

Mister, the cashier said, “That will be $5.00.”  The older man came out of his reverie, paid the $5.00, left the store, and saw the two boys in the parking lot joking and horsing around.  Approaching his car he smiled, for these two were on the right track.

With kindest regards, Judowolf
